Mark Whitehead is a PR and communications consultant with more than 25 years’ experience. This includes working as a journalist on local, national and specialist publications as well as PR and communications work with agencies, public sector organisations and global corporations.


Specialist areas of expertise include media relations, thought leadership, brand development and training. In 2005 he founded the PR and communications agency Headline Media Ltd.

 

Career Mark has worked as a reporter, sub-editor, features editor and deputy editor on a range of local and national newspapers and professional publications. Specialisms have included education, local government, management, HR management and procurement. In the last ten years he has specialised mainly in procurement journalism and PR, which included five years as deputy editor of Supply Management magazine.


Local newspaper experience included five years as education reporter at the Telegraph & Argus in Bradford and three years as a reporter on the Reading Evening Post.


Mark  gained a Bachelor of Education degree from Cambridge University and worked as an English teacher for three years. He was then appointed as a press officer at the National Union of Teachers press office and went on to work in similar roles at Nalgo (now Unison) before becoming a specialist reporter at Local Government Chronicle. He then spent five years as education reporter on the T&A, the highly-regarded seven-edition evening newspaper in Bradford, West Yorkshire.


Other publications he has worked for as a full-time or freelance journalist include the Evening Standard, the Financial Times, the Guardian, People Management  and Municipal Journal.


Current role As founder and managing director of Headline Media Ltd Mark leads PR and communications projects with specialist agencies, public sector bodies and global corporations, including PR campaigns, writing website copy, compiling research reports and strategic consultancy.


Mark  holds the diploma from the Chartered Institute of Public Relations and is co-author of Buying for Business, Insights in Purchasing and Supply Management, published by Wiley and Sons.
